There's a loose, cheerful sway to everything here, so much so that it's hard to believe how uncelebrated Willard has been to the community at large.

Jole Blon or Jolie Blonde is a traditional Cajun waltz, often called "the Cajun national anthem" because of the popularity it has in Cajun culture. The song was popularized on a nationwide scale by a series of renditions and references in late 1940s country songs. It has been the subject of occasional covers later in the 20th century by Cajun and classic country revival bands.

He was born Jess Willard Griffin in the small town of Washburn, along the Armstrong and Potter County lines, east of Amarillo in the Texas panhandle on March 28, 1916, just months after his namesake defeated black heavyweight champion boxer Jack Johnson in a controversial decision. What Willard did in the latter '30s and early '40s if he wasn't working with Guthrie is unclear. He married an Oklahoma girl named Lorene Northcutt and around 1943 their daughter Doreen was born. At some point he settled in Klamath Falls, Oregon, where, according to 'Cowboy Songs,' he opened a dance hall and promoted dances in the area.

Jess fought for two more rounds before retiring on his stool because of the injuries he received in the first round, relinquishing the title. Willard, Jess Filmography.
