The album collects Holly's four hit singles released on the Coral label; "Words of Love", "Peggy Sue", "I'm Gonna Love You Too", and "Rave On!". The backing group was Buddy Holly's band, the Crickets. Some re-releases include the tracks from Holly's next single, "Early in the Morning" backed with "Now We're One", and "Take Your Time", the B-side of the single "Rave On".

Initially, Buddy Holly entitled the song "Cindy Lou," after his niece. But Jerry Allison asked to change the title of the song after his girlfriend, Peggy Sue Gerron. Holly had no problem with the name change. During the recording of the song, Allison struggled with the right beat. The song was written in Cha-Cha time. The sound engineer sneered on Jerry: "If you don't get it right in the next take, we're gonna change the name back to 'Cindy Lo. " Jerry believed that engineer was serious so he asked for a few more minutes to do some exercises.
