Dan Arborise – Of Tide & Trail (2009/2010).
The Birthday Party was the first album by The Idle Race, a psychedelic pop band, released in 1968 (see 1968 in music). This quasi-concept album was the first to be composed almost entirely of songs by a young Birmingham guitarist/singer named Jeff Lynne. The LP came in a gatefold sleeve, the first of its kind since the Beatles' Sgt Pepper and the Rolling Stones' Their Satanic Majesties Request albums.
Brassily blonde, with little in the way of contrast and shimmer, it was the sort of dye job you might expect your teenage daughter to pull off in a dimly-lit bathroom with a packet from a High Street chemist. The sort of dye job, indeed, that has happened to all of us civilians from time to time, intentional or otherwise. And alas, while Jen can happily do blonde, she cannot do ‘brassy barmaid’ blonde - and particularly when it is accompanied by the sort of blunt cut that looks like it has been done by a pair of sheep-shearers. I must say I sympathise, as will others of the artificially lightened tendency. Blonde is so very hard to get right, and the temptation to go ‘just that one shade lighter’ is immense.
Produced by Rojas & Jimmy Duval. He was staying at Jimmy’s crib after I introduced them, when me and Jimmy decided to work on some stuff for Retch. That’s when we made the Look At Me! beat. We never got to send it to Retch because he went to jail and I lost contact with him and his management. Written By Jimmy Duval, Rojas & XXXTENTACION. Premiered by ELEVATOR.
