Bad Reputation is the debut solo studio album by American recording artist Joan Jett. It was originally self-released in 1980 as a self-titled album after her previous band The Runaways disbanded. It was then re-issued on Boardwalk Records in 1981 as Bad Reputation.

Joan Jett – Bad Reputation (Chords). It might just be me that remembers Freaks and Geeks, and I was mostly there for Linda Cardellini and the theme tune. As I understand it, the series didn’t even make it to the end in the US. But we got the whole thing here in the UK. Apparently, it’s now a cult hit. There are certainly plenty of people involved with it who went on to bigger things. Most notably, it was the first time actor Seth Rogen and director Judd Atapow worked together (going on to make The 40 Year Old Virgin, Knocked Up and Superbad together)

Originally self-released in 1980, Joan Jett's debut album was given a major label makeover in 1981. But first he insisted she rename it Bad Reputation, after what would become Jett’s second-most famous song, thanks to a second life as the theme for the TV series Freaks And Geeks. In 1980 Joan Jett hired early benefactor Toby Mamis – co-manager of the last incarnation of The Runaways – as her de-facto manager, and the pair brought in former Sex Pistols Paul Cook and Steve Jones to produce and play on a demo

Of course, not every song from the series could fit on a single disc - none of the songs from Billy Joel's Glass Houses on Carded and Discarded made the cut, for instance - but every song of note is here, including the opening theme of Joan Jett's "Bad Reputation," Warren Zevon's "Poor, Poor Pitiful Me," Joe Jackson's "Look Sharp

Bad Reputation was first released by Joan Jett during her short solo career, on her debut album of the same name in 1980. Since then, the song has been included on multiple Joan Jett & The Blackhearts compilation albums. It was named the 29th best rock song in 2009 by VH1, making it the highest ranking song on the list by a female artist
