Very Tall," The Oscar Peterson Trio with Milt Jackson, on VERVE Records, 1962, Stereo.
Very Tall is a 1961 album by the jazz pianist Oscar Peterson and his trio, with the vibraphonist Milt Jackson. This album marked the first recorded collaboration between Peterson and Jackson; they would later appear together on the albums Reunion Blues (1971), The Milt Jackson Big 4 (1975), Ain't But a Few of Us Left (1981), and Two of the Few (1983)
This is one of the best post-stroke Oscar Peterson sessions in the catalog, thanks in great part to the distinguished company he keeps (Ray Brown and Milt Jackson) and the stimulating atmosphere of the live setting (New York's Blue Note club). Right from the first track, "Ja-Da," you can tell that this is going to be a fun session, as the slippery, swinging, totally interlocked, totally assured way in which these vets react to each other kicks in immediately
Same label as the first '62 US mono version The Oscar Peterson Trio With Milt Jackson - Very Tall "Oscar Peterson Trio WITH (instead of "AND" on others US stereo versions) Milt Jackson", but with STEREO mentioned. Maybe the first US stereo version? Tracks A1, B6 recorded September 15, 1961 in New York.

On the Very Tall cuts, Peterson and Jackson play together with the rock firm rhythm section of bassist Brown and drummer Thigpen, and they all play in the same direction. That wasn’t a certainty with the Peterson of that day, who (in my opinion) tended to over-embellish when he played, using too many notes and churning up aa funky, bluesy feeling that felt ersatz, not real at times. This isn’t an essential album but it’s a very good one, which shows what old pros can do when they convene just to groove together.
Peterson's right hand is fleet, feathery in touch, and bluesy in feel; the left providing just enough punctuation, and at 75, Jackson's bluesy eloquence had not diminished in the least.
