Elvis‘ 1973 sessions at Stax Studio, the Southern-soul crucible in his Memphis hometown, freed him a bit from the biz-y group-think that cheesed-out his later work. The remarkable results, originally scattered across middling LPs, get bundled with illuminating outtakes on this three-CD set. Amid country gems and corn are swaggering gospel funk ( I Got a Feelin’ in My Body ) and meaty rock & roll (a hit version of Chuck Berry‘s Promised Land that echoes the Grateful Dead‘s). Elvis is the eighteenth studio album by American singer and musician Elvis Presley, released in July 1973. It sold over 1 million copies worldwide (despite being released soon after the much more successful Aloha from Hawaii). To differentiate it from his eponymous 1956 release it is sometimes called The "Fool" Album, after its first track. In the US "Fool" was issued as the B-side of "Steamroller Blues" from the Aloha from Hawaii Via Satellite album

Elvis' Stax material has never been positioned as a whole body of work - but is an amazing chapter of his career. With the Elvis At Stax release, all of this material is collected for the first time. Along with some of the funky outtakes, it creates a fresh new package that, while it doesn't have the known hits, tells a great story. 180 gram audiophile vinyl.
