Running Wild - Gates To Purgatory (1984).

Gates to Purgatory is the first studio album by Running Wild, released in 1984. It predates their piracy themes and has mostly ed lyrics but also features songs with anarchic and libertarian (in the sense of European libertarianism) themes. It was in part of Gerald "Preacher" Warnecke's studies in theology. He left the band soon after the album's release to become a vicar.

Gates of Purgatory is a fine album from the mid-eighties that always deserves more recognition then it gets. Here we are at Running Wild's debut album, Gates to Purgatory. Before Running Wild was the legendary group band singing about historical events and pirates, they were a good 'ol dirty stinkin' speed metal band that sung about none other than Satan and his buddies from Hell. This is quite the monstrous album for its raw, old school speed metal vibe and a general strength when it comes to the riffs and overall attitude.
