ESQ with the dodgy 80's samples, still a stomping tune though, but the best is slaves - what a tune the excellent use of KRS ONE's vocal and the Duran Duran sample and the beat programming - absolutely amazing what can come from a few simple elements. Slaves also samples the synthline of "Wow" by Kate Bush

The lush-as-fuck breakbeat on Slaves comes from Run DMC's 'I'm Not Going Out Like That', which became more popular in the late nineties as a tek-steppy DnB break[it's also the break on ESQ, but mixed with half a bar of Renegade Soundwave's Phantom](think there's also Derrick May + Prince samples on Slaves, very common choices for SUAD to plunder!)p.s. oh, and of course the main music sample, from Kate Bush's 'Wow'

What a great use of Renegade Sound Wave 'The Phantom' & Duran Duran 'Save A Prayer' samples. Pretty cool songs on both sides especially ESQ.

As with a lot of their releases Shut Up And Dance saved the best for the B side, and they have done it again with this release. 'Slaves' was a heavily played tune at the time and an important part of not only the 'Shut Up And Dance' catalogue but also of UK dance music as a whole. Its quite an easy going tune and not one of the stormers that was around at the time, and features the voice of KRS ONE. "Lincoln said, in this piece here, he says... he frees the slaves. He said, all slaves in armed rebellion. The slaves. Now understand one point: the African is not a slave, thats one point that they didnt realize when they were writing this. The African is not a slave. The African has a history far more advanced than this nineteen-ninety history were in right now. Hes not a slave. Lincolns ultimately sayin now you were born a slave, youll always be a slave, and all i will ever see you as is a slave, and I free you.

I like ESQ. The "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" sample is a bit dodgy, but the use of the Duran Duran keyboard sample works really well over the stomping breakbeat.
