Album closer "You Stopped Making Sense" is especially cloud-clearing, as Duncanson hits his upper register among deliciously bent guitar strings, moaning about another love lost. It's a bittersweet ending for Clinging to a Scheme, but for the Radio Dept

Clinging to a Scheme is the third studio album by Swedish indie pop band The Radio Dept. It was released on 19 April 2010 by Labrador Records. The cover features a still from news footage of an American soldier smoking marijuana from the barrel of a shotgun while stationed in Vietnam during the Vietnam War, as portrayed in Ken Burns's documentary, The Vietnam War. In 2018, Pitchfork listed Clinging to a Scheme at number 24 on its list of the 30 best dream pop albums.

Two things happened on September 10th 2008: The Radio Dept. didn’t release their third record, Clinging to a Scheme, and the Large Hadron Collider was put into motion in Switzerland, a machine that may as well have lived up to popular myth and ripped some sort of microscopic, cartoonish black hole out of thin air, to suck the disappointment right out. of every fan wondering what the was happening with that album. Hype would be the wrong word to describe the build-up to its release but Clinging to a Scheme does bear the brunt of prolonged anticipation and it’s a trait that works against it when you come down to the bare bones of what's in stock here; this is really just another Radio Dept. record, no more, no less.

It’s been a head-scratchingly long time since we last heard from The Radio Dept. four years to be exact And despite being together in one form or another since the mid-90s, the group has only put out three records, including this one. Doesn’t usually bode well, does it? But as a return, and a hugely anticipated one at that, Clinging to a Scheme quickly proves that we’re safe as ever in the Swedish outfit’s slow-to-create, yet hands
