Eccentric Soul: The Deep City Label - Am I a Good Man, Thrills and Chills, Someone to Fulfill My Needs and 23 more tracks from this album here for free.

Label: Numero Group ‎– NUM017. Series: Eccentric Soul – NUM017. Format: CD, Compilation. Helene Smith unsurprisingly is the heart and soul of the album. Beyond her, the other female singers all sound rough around the edges or just plain immature, with the possible exception of Betty Wright. Head for ‘True Love Don’t Grow On Trees’ by Helene Smith, for an awesome soul moment.

Soul Grooves Vol. 1. Various Artists. The Baby Huey Story - The Living Legend. The Northern Side of Philly Soul. Just As I Am. Bill Withers.

The third instalment in the Numero Group’s Eccentric Soul series brings together some impressive 45s released by Deep City and a couple of other related labels in Miami, Florida in the 1960s. The core group of musicians behind these great songs was a trio of public school teachers and former Florida A&M marching band members named Willie Clarke, Johnny Pearsall, and Arnold Albury. One of the greatest songs on the compilation is the giddy Stay Away From My Johnny, sung by a teenage clerk named Freda Grey. Seminal rarefied soul music.

1. Am I a Good Man - Them Two. 3:110:30. 2. Someone to Fulfill My Needs - The Moovers.

For The Numero Group, various-artists compilations are much more than haphazard selections of songs thrown together for the sake of obscurity - these compilations are anthropological studies of various musical landscapes over the course of modern music, and comprise a library that painstakingly documents long-forgotten or sorely underappreciated movements and brings them back under the microscope for thorough reexamination. This time around, the subject of study is Miami's Deep City soul imprint

Eccentric Soul: The Capsoul Label is the first compilation album by The Numero Group and first volume in the Eccentric Soul series. Founded by Bill Moss, a local singer and DJ at WVKO in Columbus, Capsoul released just a dozen 45's and one highly sought after LP resulting in a few regional hits.

Like a dusty curtain thrown back to reveal a pot of soul-glowing gold, a decrepit cardboard box, stained with age and filled with ancient tape reels, enshrines The Outskirts of Deep City. Jr. Walker's world-shaking "Shotgun.
