Cracking track bit overplayed at raves though a bit like nookie sounds of nookie got ya nerves after 1000th time :-/

Rufige Kru remix was the first version of Helicopter I ever heard (on Hype's set at Jungle Fever, early '94) & I thought it was the original until a few months later. Goldie did a terrific job, giving it a lot more energy than the original and making the Sesame Street breaks a lot more rolling and shuffley (not a great description but I know what I mean haha). Don't get me wrong, the original is an alltime classic but this version just gives it a whole new lease of life

Anyone know how many of these were pressed? .. ..
Fenius Fenius
I would love to know how many of these shadow test presses were released too. I've got a few 10" test press on the moving shadow label. I can't imagine there would be more than 20 of each.., I guess Rob Playford is the man to ask
Grokinos Grokinos
good for going to sleep, i guess, not for much else though

Grooverider says this is his ultimate track alongside LTJ Music and DJ SS Lighter. High praise indeed. It's a banger!

I would have to agree with the Rider there! The Helicopter Tune is totally seminal. No collection is complete without it.

It says to play at 33 and a third but it really plays at 45. Dunno if that's just for mine or for everyone else's.

The helicopter tune is one of the most influential records to come out of the drum and bass, jungle scene of 93-94.. It's pure class ! Unfortunately deep blue never managed to repeat or follow it up with anything of a similar standard. Firmly in my top 10 all time greats

This is what dance music should be. Less is more. This is a tune designed solely for rocking your body and nothing else! It is the perfect example of what a pure and intuitive response to the dancefloor is. The pretentious, competitive and cerebral Drum & Bass producers of today need to take a hard look at what they are doing and get back to basics. And this track is the perfect place to start. Why do you think it's still so popular today 22 years after it first hit the street?
Burisi Burisi
breakbeat hardcore / jungle at its very finest without a doubt

Although she remains uncredited, Goldie mentioned during a recent 6 Music show that the 'sometimes I feel like crying' vocal sample in the Rufige Kru remix was from Diane Charlemagne, a leftover salvaged from a Reinforced recording session.

The same vocal was used on the track "The Rain" from this release: Manix - The Early Plates Vol.2.

Seminal, everybody bubble to this!

I have this with a different shadow cover in gold, says audio couture on it.

From an interview with DJ Teebone where he states that this is his favourite tune of all time."It has to be Deep Blue’s The Helicopter Tune, I still don’t think a tune has been released to this day that caused as much impact on the dancefloor as it did way back in the early 90s. I remember going to Telepathy at the Rex – the one with the old corrugated roof which shook when the bassline hit, hearing this tune for the first time and everybody in the rave going mad. It’s just a track that has so much emotion yet is so simple, I don’t really think Deep Blue had really anticipated what a groundbreaking tune he had made at the time."

This uses the Sesame Street break, among others. It is a nice, calm song with sounds of forest birds in it, and a kinda brush sound at the breakdown. his is a tune to relax to, basically! You can get a cheaper copy on 'Moving Shadow 10.04', which also included Foul Play - Finest Illusion (Legal Mix) and Omni Trio - Thru The Vibe (2 On 1 Mix), it is a must-get if you're into breakbeat hardcore :)

You need to stay of the drugs mate - either that of get your ears cleaned -LOL...Or there is a 3rd possibility - you have this tune mixed up with something else.
Oghmaghma Oghmaghma
Huh? I wouldn't call this an example of early hardcore at all mate. Drum and Bass was well underway by the time this came out.
Quamar Quamar
One of the first bits of wax I ever bought. Really handy piece of vinyl to learn me the ways of early hardcore :P Thank the lord for those represses.......

When this record first came out it sounded like nothing else that had come before it. Quite simply, it was ground breaking. It became and instant classic on the scene. It got rinsed on the pirate stations and in the clubs, and has since gone on to even greater notoriety. It's hard to describe the drum sounds in this track, but they're unlike any other Drum & Bass tune I've heard. And any producer of any style of music should pick up a copy just to have a listen out of sheer production and studio geekery, if not musical appreciation. I still remember how places used to erupt as soon as everyone heard the trade mark helicopter intro coming in. This is probably the sort of thing that might get featured on future TV programmes in 30 or 40 years time - tunes that changed the world or something like that. Absolute classic. A revolutionary piece of music.
Anayaron Anayaron
agreed. THis tune sounds awesome. THe bassline is just sheer belting

Well... Apart from the obvious Helicopter RMX, which is a classic in its own right for reasons I won't go into now (mainly because they're too obvious), there's the rather over looked Y Side with a track entitled Thursday. Why was it called Thursday? Well... Because at a certain time of week, back in the late nineties, a night was running down at the Mars Bar, off Tottenham Court Road. Set up by Fabio and Bukem, two hardcore future music gurus of the Drum & Bass genre, they were rinsing out their latest record label signings to an audience that wanted nothing more than to dance all night long to new cutting edge beats... It was there, in the darkness of that cosy underground night club, that many a high tech creation from future and past Drum & Bass pioneers were played, all who were unwittingly setting the pace and mode for the future of break beat music... There they could break away from the Raga and Dance Hall influences of Tribal Dance and One Nation, and escape into more uncharted, techno influenced, and funk fueled numbers... This Thursday soiree set the pace for Swerve (now running at The End), Fabio's legendary Liquid Funk night...And it was this track, Thursday, that became the anthem for that night: Speed... Weirdly beat driven, rather than break beat in nature, Thursday somewhat preempted the dub step movement that would arrive in 2004 (a bold statement, I know, but just listen to it and you can't help but hear the similarities). With a heavy, heavy bass line and frilly drum rolls that are smattered with congo like effected drums, this track just rolled out whenever Fabio played it down at Speed! While this is not as complex or satisfying as some of Moving Shadow's other releases, it is in my books easily worth a listen! Sean O'Keeffe's simple and yet great drum programming really set off a new tech-step revolution in drum and bass that was written and inspired by the night that made it famous... And nothing came close it at the time. The reason why that sample rings through its time line: Get Away!!!Killer!!!

If you went out this weekend, and somebody dropped this tune, even today, the place would go mad. And that isn't just nostalgia... This tune still sounds totally fresh. A breathtaking production.
