Primal Scream's seminal album "Screamadelica" defined a generation. It's mix of rock, dance, dub, gospel and more caught the zeitgeist of the early nineties to perfection and it went on to win the inaugural Mercury Music Prize in 1992 and consistently be named as "Best Album Of The Nineties" and appear in numerous "All Time Best Albums" lists.
Prior to Screamadelica, Primal Scream were Stonesy classic rock revivalists with a penchant for Detroit rock. They retained those fascinations on Screamadelica - one listen to the Jimmy Miller-produced, Stephen Stills-rip "Movin' on Up" proves that - but they burst everything wide open here, turning rock inside out by marrying it to a gleeful rainbow of modern dance textures.
Primal Scream had already jumped from sweet-toothed jangle-pop, which Bobby Gillespie’s reedy voice suited well, to scuzzy proto-grunge, which it really didn’t. The album might have been a mere appendix to a briefly promising scene. Fortunately, Screamadelica 's power isn’t in an abstract clash of two different genres, but in the marriage of two very similar sensibilities. One is Bobby Gillespie’s. Primal Scream’s output has sometimes been dismissed as "record collection rock", their versatility no more than a procession of learned poses – the Byrds, rave, krautrock, post-punk.
Primal Scream are a British rock band originally formed in 1982 in Glasgow by Bobby Gillespie (vocals) and Jim Beattie. The band's current lineup consists of Gillespie, Andrew Innes (guitar), Martin Duffy (keyboards), Simone Butler (bass), and Darrin Mooney (drums). Barrie Cadogan has toured and recorded with the band since 2006 as a replacement after the departure of guitarist Robert "Throb" Young.

Screamadelica is a 1991 album by Primal Scream and was their first to be a commercial success. In 1998 Q magazine readers voted it the 27th greatest album of all time. The album was a massive departure from the band's early indie rock sound, drawing inspiration from the house music scene (and associated drugs) that was becoming popular at the time of its production.
Primal Scream is the second studio album by Scottish rock band Primal Scream. It was released on 4 September 1989 in the United Kingdom by Creation Records and in the United States by Mercenary Records. Musically, it took a harder rock approach than their 1987 debut Sonic Flower Groove and did not achieve great success. However, the song "I'm Losing More Than I'll Ever Have" was later remixed to provide the breakthrough single "Loaded", which appeared on their much celebrated third album Screamadelica.

Before acid house, Scotland's Primal Scream were your average, jangly psych-rock act. Then rave hit and Andrew Weatherall signed on to produce their third album, Screamadelica, and a generation's collective mind was blown. Their roots are evident in the Stones-style blues rock of "Movin' On Up", but the '60s quickly melt away as they dive into house beats, synth bleeps, dubbed-out remixology and the mind-bending chillout bliss of "Higher Than the Sun" and "I'm Comin' Down". Dancing in muddy fields would never be the same again.
