Something to Write Home About is the second full-length studio album by American rock band The Get Up Kids, released on September 21, 1999
The Get Up Kids quickly point to the large record deals they turned down to "stay independent. Most labels urged the band to re-record "Don't Hate Me" from the band's debut. So the Kids "kept it real" and recorded an entire album of songs which follow the same formula, yet never reach the quasi- memorable qualities of a radio hit. Yet, a merchandise catalog falls out of Something to Write Home About upon opening. The band's decision to not sign with a major just makes them seem financially inept in addition to their musical shortcoming
I figured had to be something special. This band probably doesn't need an introduction, but here's one anyway. The Get Up Kids are a five-piece o/pop punk band from Kansas City, Missouri that formed in 1995 and broke up in 2005. They reunited three years later in 2008, and have been active ever since. This is mostly due to one particular album, 1999's incredible Something To Write Home About, which features 12 insanely catchy pop songs that simply never get old. Prior to Something To Write Home About, they had released a handful of material, including a great EP titled Woodson and another full-length, Four Minute Mile. This was fairly standard, catchy, 90's pop punk/emo fare, and their punk roots somewhat show.

Action & Action is the second single from The Get Up Kids' album Something to Write Home About. The single was only released in Europe, and is the first Get Up Kids single released on CD on March 24, 2000 in North America and November 24 elsewhere. All tracks written by The Get Up Kids. Action & Action" was also released on the band's live album Live! @ The Granada Theater. Close to Me" was released on the band's rarities and B-sides collection Eudora.
After The Get Up Kids' previous album, Four Minute Mile brought major label offers, the band decided to stick with an indie label and sign with Vagrant Records for their next album after a short and unproductive time with Mojo Records. Something to Write Home About brought the band an increasing fan base, as their sound became slightly more radio-oriented, with more melodic choruses and hooks. The album was included in Rock Sound's 101 Modern Classics list at number 9. .Initially the rumors were fan reports from the farewell Reggie and the Full Effect tour, when former Get Up Kids keyboardist James Dewees claimed that.
The Get Up Kids’ debut, Four Minute Mile, was a charmingly unpolished yet solid pop-punk effort that was well received by the punk/emo community. It displayed some of the band’s talent for simple yet effective melodicism and lyrical incisiveness that would eventually come to fruition on Something to Write Home About; but the evolutionary step between the albums was remarkable, perhaps even comparable to the change Brand New would affect between their debut and sophomore records only a few years later.
