Newton pursued an interest in jazz and classical music academically in Perth, where she studied clarinet at the University of Western Australia. She took a jazz vocals course at the Conservatorium, meanwhile singing with the Western Australia Youth Jazz Orchestra. Newton then entered . .

Victoria Newton began her musical career in Perth, Western Australia where she studied classical music and jazz. Her talent was recognised when she became a finalist in The Australian Singing Competition. In 1990, London became her next major destination and she quickly established a name for herself on the jazz and latin scene. She collaborated with acid-jazz recording artist Ronny Jordan and became lead singer with latin/jazz-fusion band Cayenne. Strike went on to produce another four UK Top 40 Hits and a critically acclaimed album 'I Saw the Future'. Recently Victoria signed a solo recording deal with Fresh Records in London and began writing and recording her first album featuring song-oriented dance music with R&B influences. Her first single went to Number 8 in the Dance Charts and, in 1999, featured in the Top 10 of world-renowned DJ, Paul Van Dyk.

I noticed today that all the Strike back catalogue on Fresh Records was re-uploaded (again) to the digital stores through Demon Music - albeit in Sept 2016. Nice to see they've included all the mixes and this time have included the 1999 remixes of U Sure Do. They have also uploaded two singles and the aborted solo album by Victoria Newton. Pleasant album if a little short (nine songs) and it has two updates of Strike songs. The most intriguing thing is that the last track is a cover of What I Am which doesn't sound too dissimilar to Tin Tin Out and Emma Bunton's version.
