Description

Fly" is a song by American rock band Sugar Ray. It appears on their 1997 album Floored twice: one version with reggae artist Super Cat (track four) and the other without (track 13). The song became the band's first hit, holding the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart for four consecutive weeks and spending eight weeks at the No. 1 spot on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. A physical CD-single was not released commercially in the US, although it was a huge hit on American radio.

Sugar Ray is the self-titled fourth studio album by the band Sugar Ray. The album was released on June 12, 2001, and debuted at number 6 on the Billboard 200 chart, and went gold. The album's first single, "When It's Over", performed well on pop and rock charts as well. The track "Words to Me" was featured on the Scooby-Doo film soundtrack in 2002

Sugar Ray, fronted by Mark McGrath, started out as a California funk metal band before they broke into the mainstream as pop rockers nearly a decade later with "Fly. The reggae fusion tune, featuring Jamaican DJ Super Cat, finds the singer wanting to fly to romantic heights to escape all the heartache in the world, including the death of his mother. Although "Fly" was unlike anything on the Floored album, Atlantic Records sent a promo single to radio stations. Unfortunately album cuts weren't eligible for the Hot 100 at the time, but the song hit on the Hot 100 Airplay Chart for four consecutive weeks and dominated the Modern Rock Tracks chart for eight weeks. The album sold over two million copies and landed at on the albums chart. McGrath hated the song when he first heard Sugar Ray drummer Stan Frazier play it.
