The music on this LP was originally composed by Maggi Payne from 1984 - 1987 for the performance group Technological Feets. Formed by video artist Ed Tannenbaum in the San Francisco Bay Area in 1981, the group combines dance, live video processing & music.

After the music was completed, Payne created a video part to be shown with the tape. The images are prismatically colorful crystals, seen forming in real time, as magnified by a microscope. Other compositions in this CD are Subterranean Network, White Night (a French expression for a sleepless night of repeating thoughts), and Solar Wind, based on the image of shockwave interactions of Saturn and Venus with the solar wind.

Her work involves electroacoustic, instrumental, and vocal works along with works involving visuals, including dancers outfitted with electroluminescent wire and videos she creates using images ranging from nature to the abstract. Crystal was first released in 1986 on the Lovely Music label. Home to experimental musicians such as Robert Ashley, David Behrman, Pauline Oliveros and Alvin Lucier.
