But taco shops are cultural centers. They are the cultural crossroads of a new millenium. As Taco Shop Poets we are the cultural workers of these crossroads. The white bread and peanut butter conspiracy is spreading. The Taco Shop Poets answer back con salsa, con sabor y con fuerza.
Taco Shop Poets is the name of a poetry and spoken word collective formed in 1994 at a Poetry Series, Taco Shop Poetry',' hosted by Adolfo Guzman-Lopez at the Centro Cultural de la Raza in Balboa Park, San Diego. It grew to a collective of over 30 poets, band members and performance artists based at El Campo Ruse on 16th St. in Downtown San Diego's East Village.

Other great local poets include Viet Mai, the no longer active Los Able Minded Poets (Ken10, Naz and Irene Castruita), Sonia Gutierrez, our own Will Falk and so many more.

Additionally Taco Shop Poets has appeared in the documentary "Americano" by Carlos Fernando, founded the arts non-profit Voz Alta, and have read in cities across the nation. Following a long hiatus that began after their last album, the group has recently reunited and released a chapbook to be presented this Saturday, May 26th as part of the La Palabra Series with Avenue Studio 50.
