Most of their songs were covers of other notable surf artists, including Dick Dale, The Ventures, and The Chantays. There have been two groups that have called themselves "The Lively Ones": 1)The Lively Ones were an instrumental Surf Rock band from California.

This CD contains the Lively Ones' first two albums, Surf Rider! and Surf Drums, both originally released in 1963. During their brief tenure on the indie Del-Fi label, they issued no less than four long-players in addition to a dozen or so singles, the vast majority during the same year as the LPs heard here. The five-piece unit was led by soloists Joel Willenbring (sax) and Jim Masoner (guitar), and was filled out with the rhythm section of Ed Chiaverini (guitar), Ron Griffith (bass), and Tim Fitzpatrick (drums)
