Before Tina Turner recorded What’s Love Got to Do With It, Bucks Fizz was offered the song and it was supposed to be featured on their album I Hear Talk, but after Tina released the song as a single, their version was shelved until 2000. The song topped the Billboard Hot 100 for 3 weeks in 1984 and was certified Gold by the RIAA.

What's Love Got to Do with It is the eighth solo studio album by Tina Turner, released on Parlophone in 1993. It was the soundtrack album for the 1993 Tina Turner biographical film of the same name, which was released by Touchstone Pictures the same year. Turner re-recorded many of her songs from the Ike and Tina Turner period for this album including their first hit single "A Fool in Love".

This piqued interest, and "What's Love Got To Do With It" was released in May a few weeks before the Private Dancer album. Turner got lots of positive press and her comeback story helped her build momentum. In September, the song hit and Tuner was once again a headline act. This was one of many popular songs to appear in the TV series Miami Vice; it was used in the first season episode "Calderone's Return: Part 2 - Calderone's Demise" in 1984.
