The Short-Wave Mystery is Volume 24 in the original The Hardy Boys Mystery Stories published by Grosset & Dunlap. This book was written for the Stratemeyer Syndicate by Leslie McFarlane in 1945. Between 1959 and 1973 the first 38 volumes of this series were systematically revised as part of a project directed by Harriet Adams, Edward Stratemeyer's daughter. The original version of this book was rewritten in 1966 by David Grambs resulting in two different stories with the same title.

The 1985 original EP has side 1 run out etched with: KH13122 Are1 myKMII (in cursive). Side 2 of the original Pressing has: "KH13122 BRCII myKMII" (in cursive).

In order to distinguish the original, 1985 first pressing of "The Short Wave Mystery" from the recent 2013 re-release of the same title you will have to compare the stamper Serial Number# trail-outs of the EP's. The 1985 original EP has side 1 run out etched with: KH13122 Are1 myKMII (in cursive). Side 2 of the original Pressing has: "KH13122 BRCII myKMII" (in cursive). THE 2013 REPRESSING HAS THE FOLLOWING: Side 1 has engraved: "PSM-SF" (Lacquer engineer Paul Stubblebine's inscription) and "WS2013001-A" (Record Labels Catalog number)Side 2 has engraved again: "PSM-SF" (Lacquer engineer Paul Stubblebine's inscription) and "WS2013001-B" (Record Labels Catalog number)Lastly band members had the lacquer engineer etch on Side B:"This one's for Ray" in honor of the original producer Raymond E. Parish, now deceased.Other than the etching run out , the quality of the two recordings are different-The 2013 Repress has more details and less stereo imaging placed on the overall master bus along with extended talking parts between band members at the end of Track 2. The original cover's red lettering seems a bit darker and is placed higher to the edge of the Jacket than it does on the Original. Other than that, cosmetically, two EP's are nearly identical, save for the repressing Jacket being MUCH whiter than the off white the original has taken on due to wear, over the years.. If the run-out stamping on your copy of the above vinyl has anything other than the above, you are in possession of a bootleg copy.
