The Horse ‎(LP, Album). Considering that in eight years, the Ventures released twenty-nine albums (liner notes), it's not surprising they had a few duds, and it's amazing that they were able to put out enjoyable sets like this one. This isn't their strongest set, and maybe not the best starting point, but it's another worthwhile grab for fans, turning up the R&B/funk with content (James Brown, Jesse James, et. and the inclusion of horns and organ.

The Ventures rose to the challenge with this entertaining, if not exactly groundbreaking or earth-shattering, album. There are Buckinghams-style horns (arranged by George Tipton and Warren Barker) throughout The Horse, which isn't too distracting from the nicely jagged lead guitar (no telling if it's Nokie Edwards or Gerry McGee)

It is a double LP, which features covers of classic 1960s pop hits an including hits by The Beatles and Simon & Garfunkel and some songs from early 1970 such as "Who'll Stop the Rain" and "Bridge Over Troubled Water".
