The Book of Invasions: A Celtic Symphony is the sixth album by the Irish Celtic rock band Horslips. It was a concept album based on an adaptation of Irish legends built into a complex story. It is named for the Lebor Gabála Érenn, a book of Irish mythology known as The Book of Invasions in English. Released in 1976, it is usually considered their best work.

This is a concept album of "The Book of Invasions" (Leabhar Gabh�la �ireann) regarding Irish legends regarding pre-Christian Pagan days, if I'm not mistakened. The album opens up with "Daybreak", a simply, folk-influenced melody played on guitar. Horslips is a much underrated and very good band and Book Of Invasions is a great Horslips album with some truly excellent moments. I would recommend any Prog Folk fan to get this album, but it is not the only Horslips album you need! Highly recommended!

The lyricism used in The Book of Invasions is fun, light, and the most Irish-oriented out of any Horslips album. But there is something more amazing than the lyricism: how well it is extended out by Charles O’ Connor, Jim Lockhart, John Fean, and Barry Devlin. The four vocalists, who collaborate with each other on The Book of Invasions, are especially great at having their vocals be flexible with most listeners, making this album an enjoyable experience. There’s also a hint of Irish gusto to each of the vocalists, adding something ethnically seasoning

Neck-and-neck at first, but the Book of Invasions gets the horse's nod over the Tain. Book is a bit less dated in its arrangements. The pace is more sustained. The tightness of the band has been honed by years on stage. Like "Táin," "Book" is meant to work as a unified single piece of music, as the subtitle defines it. Songs are chapters in a book, verses of a poem. Instrumental and sung passages alternate in the three movements of the album from Geantrai-cheerier songs- to Goltrai- laments-to Suantrai- songs of sleep or dreams.
