Soul Survivor (Pete Rock album). Soul Survivor is the debut studio album of hip hop producer and emcee Pete Rock, formerly of the acclaimed duo Pete Rock & CL Smooth. Rock contributes to all the production on the release, as well as a number of verses, while leaving a large part of the rhyming to several guest artists; such as, Kurupt of Tha Dogg Pound, Wu-Tang Clan members Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Method Man, & Cappadonna; .

Pete Rock actually raps on every track, so I would consider this a 'real' solo album, while it is of course also a producer-album to showcase his beats. 68 (talk) 06:51, 21 June 2010 (UTC). php?title Talk:Soul Survivor (Pete Rock album)&oldid 401559466". Categories: Start-Class Album articles.

Recent albums by Pete Rock.

With his first solo album, Pete Rock reminds us why his past work with partner CL Smooth resulted in some of the most luscious hip-hop beats the art form has ever known. While Rock's lyrical presence falters, his musical craft makes up the difference as the Soul Brother No. 1 switches from the sublimely soulful ("Mind Blowin'") to the ultrafunky ("Da Two") to the dramatically sinister ("The Game").

1.

Pete Rock has stayed remarkably consistent over his 15-year-career and Soul Survivor II doesn’t seek to surprise the listener or expand the parameters of hip-hop. Instead it reinforces an idea of rap music as a very basic formula that is elevated based on Pete Rock’s high standards and attention to detail. Every cut conveys a specific mood. Soul Survivor II showcases a range of underground rappers from the past and present, and the album attains an outstanding chemistry on the tracks featuring Rock’s former partner, . While the pair’s relationship has been strained, the synthesis in It’s a Love Ting and Appreciate makes a reunion between these two musical kinsmen seem inevitable. Soul Survivor II Pete Rock.
