Dizzy Gillespie, Sonny Rollins, Sonny Stitt. Jazz Journeys Presents the Birth of Bebop - Dizzy Gillespie.

Previously Unreleased Recordings is an album by saxophonist Sonny Stitt featuring compositions associated with Duke Ellington which was originally recorded in 1960 and released on the Verve label in 1973. Norman Granz probably didn't want it released during Johnny Hodges's lifetime and even here it is not billed as a Ellington tribute. On CD it can be found on Import as part of Rearin' Back, Tribute To Duke Ellington.

This obscure LP features Sonny Stitt (on alto and tenor) jamming with an unidentified quartet. Together they perform nine songs associated with Duke Ellington (including "It Don't Mean a Thing," "Perdido," and "Solitude") and the results are typically swinging bop if not overly memorable. Stitt fans will want this one anyway.

Edward "Sonny" Stitt (born Edward Boatner, J. February 2, 1924 – July 22, 1982), was an American jazz saxophonist of the bebop/hard bop idiom. He was one of the most well-documented saxophonists of his generation, recording over 100 albums. He was nicknamed the "Lone Wolf" by jazz critic Dan Morgenstern, in reference to his relentless touring and devotion to jazz.
