Laura Kennedy was hot, Pat Place was cool, and Dee Pop laid down the jerky new-wave funk beat. I still have the 99 single and I rate "You Taste Like The Tropics" right up there with "Contort Yourself" as an example of what this scene was all about. Responder Notifícame 2 Helpful. The Bush Tetras are a rock band from New York City. Forming in 1979, they were very popular in the New York club scene in the early 1980s, but never had much mainstream success. Their music combined dance rhythms and dissonant rock-guitar riffs. Lead guitarist Pat Place and vocalist Cynthia Sley produced the most distinctive aspects of the Tetras sound. Place's guitar lines were rhythmic and distortion-filled.

The Bush Tetras were founded in 1979 by guitarist Pat Place, vocalist Cynthia Sley, bassist Laura Kennedy, and drummer Dee Pop (aka Dimitri Papadopoulos). After making a name for themselves on the . club circuit, they released their debut single in 1980, "Too Many Creeps," on the independent 99 Records imprint. The original lineup of Bush Tetras reformed in 1995 and released the album Beauty Lies in 1997 In 1998, they recorded an album with producer Don Fleming for Mercury Records, titled Happy, but it was shelved when Mercury was sold (the album was finally released in 2012 by ROIR). In 2005, they added bassist Julia Murphy and resumed performing in New York City. RIP: Laura Kennedy of Bush Tetras". Retrieved February 24, 2012.
Tetrafied is a collection of demos, live tracks, outtakes and rarities from the Bush Tetras' early-'80s heyday. While this material is undoubtedly just for the devoted, it is nevertheless revealing, as it's possible to hear the band's many dub experiments weave themselves into their harder-edged punk numbers.
As Minneapolis City Pages reports, original Bush Tetras bassist Laura Kennedy died Monday due to complications from Hepatitis C. She lived with the disease for almost 20 years, and had a liver transplant in 2008. Bush Tetras were at the heart of the New York no wave and punk/funk scenes in the late 1970s and early 80s, an integral part of a scene that also included Sonic Youth, the Contortions, Television, Lydia Lunch, and others.
