East of Eden (album). East of Eden is the second album by Victoria Bergsman's solo-project Taken by Trees. Victoria travelled to Pakistan to record the follow-up to her last record Open Field. It includes a track called "My Boys", a cover of the Animal Collective song "My Girls" with some minor lyric changes. The song "Anna" also includes Animal Collective member Noah "Panda Bear" Lennox on backing vocals. The song "To Lose Someone" features the voice of local Sufi musician Sain Muhammad Al. .

But she managed to create an album of often surpassing beauty, delivering songs of love and loss such as "Watch the Waves" and "To Lose Someone" in a wan, plaintive manner over beds of gently puttering percussion, funky acoustic guitar and breaths of flute, with subtle contrails of Eastern violin, warm harmonium drones and beguiling local vocals entwining delicately around the arrangements

East of Eden, then, is a rarity, an album that from start to finish immerses itself in the Pakistani culture but retains that quintessentially Swedish pop edge that Bergsman long ago mastered. It’s an exciting and, at first listen, a perplexing sort of record. Few familiar with the Concretes or the last Taken By Trees record will know how to reconcile Bergman’s soft vocals with sitar flourishes and male backing vocals wailing in traditional Pakistani tongues.
