White Blood Cells is the third studio album by American garage rock duo The White Stripes, released on July 3, 2001. Recorded in less than one week at Easley-McCain Recording in Memphis, Tennessee, and produced by frontman and guitarist Jack White, it was the band's final record released independently on Sympathy for the Record Industry. Bolstered by the hit single "Fell in Love with a Girl", the record propelled The White Stripes into early commercial popularity and critical success.

The White Stripes would like to dedicate this album to Loretta Lynn. Recorded at Easley-McCain Recording in Memphis, Tennesse winter 2001. Mastered at Absolute Audio. P&C 2001 XL Recordings ltd under exclusive license from Third Man Records.

Sympathy for the Record Industry. That's not a problem with White Blood Cells. I've got it taped for my walkman in the classic cassette format- it fits easily onto Side A of my 90-minute Maxell

The White Stripes are: - Jack White (guitar, vocals, piano) - Meg White (drums, backing vocals). Most people should know by now that Jack and Meg are not brother and sister but were married at one stage (Jack took Meg’s last name). Track 1 – Dead Leaves on the Dirty Ground The album is introduced with a few drum stick knocks, a little bit of feedback, and then straight into a little dirty riff. Soon it melds into some nice guitar work, gentle and calming with Meg tapping away on the drums in the background

Admittedly, White Blood Cells lacks some of the White Stripes' blues influence and urgency, but it perfects the pop skills the duo honed on De Stijl and expands on them. The country-tinged "Hotel Yorba" and immediate, crazed garage pop of "Fell in Love With a Girl" define the album's immediacy, along with the folky, McCartney-esque "We're Going to Be Friends," a charming, school-days love song that's among Jack White's finest work.

I discovered the White Stripes through their brilliant 2003 album Elephant. Then I found my way to White Blood Cells, which is equally good in my opinio. ut maybe less immediate and pop-oriented? One of the most distinctive songs on the album is ‘The Union Forever’ - it’s dark and foreboding, and years later I found out that the lyrics were taken in large part from the movie Citizen Kane. On the whole, the album is catchy, scrappy, funny, theatrical, and deeply American.
