Instrumental Tourist is a collaborative studio album by Canadian musician Tim Hecker and American musician Daniel Lopatin (who records as Oneohtrix Point Never).

The first volume of SSTUDIOS, a series of collaborative releases released on Daniel Lopatin's Software imprint, Instrumental Tourist pairs Lopatin with Tim Hecker, another artist who excels at drone-based electronic music, on a set of largely improvised songs. With both Hecker and Lopatin garnering much deserved praise last year (with Ravedeath, 1972 and Oneotrix Point Never’s Replica, respectively), big things were expected out of this newly established union. Fortunately, the album does not disappoint in the least, and goes above and beyond expectations. Similar to the delicious concoction created by combining peanut butter and chocolate, Hecker and Lopatin fully complement each other’s sound wonderfully.

Instrumental Tourist offers more proof that these two are undisputed masters in their field, regardless of how necessary a collaborative effort like this really is anyway. 70. Drowned in Sound.
