Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings is the 12th studio album by American folk singer John Prine, released in 1995. The cover artwork is by John Callahan. Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings was produced by Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers bassist Howie Epstein, who produced Prine's 1991 Grammy Winning comeback album The Missing Years. The album features several songs Prine co-wrote with Nashville veteran Gary Nicholson and includes contributions from guitarist Waddy Wachtel and Marianne Faithfull.

John Prine's follow-up to his comeback album, The Missing Years, is more of the same in terms of freeing up Prine's idiosyncratic muse and marrying the result to Howie Epstein's top-flight production sound. Fans of the early Prine may find that sound over-produced, but the songs never get lost, and with Prine's typically humorous, off-center view of the world (song titles include "Humidity Built the Snowman" and "He Forgot That It Was Sunday"), it's the songs that count
Lost Dogs and Mixed Blessings is an even stronger piece of work than his acclaimed comeback effort, The Missing Years. Produced once again with grace and taste by Howie Epstein of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers, Lost Dogs is full of new, typically idiosyncratic Prine delights including the ravishing Lake Marie, All The Way With You, Ain’t Hurt Nobody, and This Love is Real. This album is where Björk "lost" some people, even though it's gone down as her best (and best earning) album to date. Her typical electronic dance production gave way to a much more matured synthetic production on Vespertine, mixed with live instruments like the harp, celesta, clavichord, and more. What's wild is they went as far as to record the sound of her stepping on icy snow, shuffling a deck of cards, building custom music boxes, and other unorthodox methods you usually only find in foley work in movie production.
