Mahmoud Ahmed (Amharic: መሀሙድ አህመድ) (born May 8, 1941) is an Ethiopian singer of Gurage ancestry. Born in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Mahmoud shined shoes in that city before becoming a handyman at the Arizona Club, where he first sang professionally in the early 1960s. He sang for the Imperial Body Guard Band until 1974, and recorded with other bands for the Amha and Kaifa record labels throughout the 1970s.

Mahmoud Ahmed (Amharic: ማሀሙድ አህመድ; born May 8 or 18, 1941) is an Ethiopian singer of Gurage ancestry. He gained great popularity in Ethiopia in the 1970s and among the Ethiopian diaspora in the 1980s, before rising to international fame with African music fans in Europe and the Americas

But what really blows our minds is the dose of traditional Amharic musicality woven into these Western motifs, from their circular rhythmic patterns to Ahmed's distinct vocal, sung in the traditional Ethiopian five-note scale.
