Basics (Houston Person album). Basics is an album by saxophonist Houston Person recorded in 1987 and released on the Muse label in 1989.
Tenor saxophonist Houston Person has stuck to his singular musical path throughout his career, playing uncomplicated but soulful and swinging renditions of blues, ballads, and jazz standards for a couple decades, ignoring current (and usually short-lived) musical trends. For this set, he is joined by pianist Stan Hope, bassist Peter Martin Weiss, drummer Cecil Brooks III, and Ralph Dorsey on congas for six superior vintage tunes

Something Personal is an album by saxophonist Houston Person which was recorded in 2015 and released on the HighNote label. In JazzTimes, Owen Cordle wrote: "Something Personal is a typical offering from veteran tenor saxophonist Houston Person: warm ballads, an R&B cooker, a couple of standards with a bossa-nova beat and a couple of soulful swingers.
HOUSTON PERSON is a hard bop, swing, jazz related pop/art song/folk, post bop soul jazz music artist. In the 1990s, Houston Person kept the soulful thick-toned tenor tradition of Gene Ammons alive, particularly in his work with organists. After learning piano as a youth, Person switched to tenor. While stationed in Germany with the Army, he played in groups that also included Eddie Harris, Lanny Morgan, Leo Wright, and Cedar Walton.
