The Wild, the Innocent & the E Street Shuffle is the second studio album by American rock singer-songwriter Bruce Springsteen. It was recorded by Springsteen with the E Street Band at 914 Sound Studios in Blauvelt, New York; and released on November 11, 1973, by Columbia Records. The album includes the song "Rosalita (Come Out Tonight)", the band's most-used set-closing song for the first 10 years of its career.
Bruce Springsteen expanded the folk-rock approach of his debut album, Greetings from Asbury Park, . to strains of jazz, among other styles, on its ambitious follow-up, released only eight months later. His chief musical lieutenant was keyboard player David Sancious, who lived on the E Street that gave the album and Springsteen's backup group its name. With his help, Springsteen created a street-life mosaic of suburban society that owed much in its outlook to Van Morrison's romanticization of Belfast in Astral Weeks.
Bruce Springsteen may have been the future of rock’n’roll, but he wasn’t yet its present. Rich in self-mythologising tales of the frustrated boys and girls of Asbury Park’s balmy boardwalk days and nights, it delivered a show-stopping, cinematic Side Two. Incident On 57th Street is where Springsteen moved from dreamer to creative colossus. But success? It wasn't happening

About The E Street Shuffle. Bruce kicks off his second album with this groovy party music, partly to thwart labels that he’s merely another musician trying to follow in Bob Dylan’s footsteps. Unlike his first album, Greetings from Asbury Park, that focused mostly on him as a folky soloist, he wanted to use The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle to show his more beloved work as the leader of a bar band in New Jersey. Bruce says the accompanying groove is inspired by this 1963 song, Major Lance singing Monkey Time : "The E Street Shuffle" Track Info. His second album, The Wild, the Innocent, and the E Street Shuffle, added his stellar E Street Band. This is where Springsteen becomes an electric performer, with songs that invent new structures and court deep narratives. The E Street Shuffle and Kitty’s Back are among the funkiest songs he’s recorded, while 4th of July, Asbury Park (Sandy) and Wild Billy’s Circus Story are the warmest and most heartbreaking on the album. Incident on 57th Street is pure cinemascope, an elaborate tale that sweats like a classic early-‘70s film.
