Tiger, My Friend is the first album by electronica band Psapp. It was originally released on The Leaf Label and was later reissued by Domino Records, which now controls Psapp's entire catalog. All tracks written by Psapp at Fishtank Studios, London, except where noted. Additional personnel. Shawn Lee - drums, "Rear Moth". Matt Wasser - beer can, "Tiger, My Friend". Psapp's TIGER, MY FRIEND starts off with some field recordings before shifting into an island-influenced "Rear Moth," a touch of joyousness, while "Leaving In Coffins" gets twitchy with its instrumentation. Through it all, Durant's sweet vocals float on top. Is it all twee? Sure it is, but that's not a knock against it. "Calm Down" starts with music box twinkles before morphing into a more melancholy tone, while "About Fun" takes you to the ballroom for a dance.

Much like fellow Londoners Tunng and Adem, Psapp (the cat-obsessed duo of Carim Clasmann and Galia Durant) combine the idyllic laptop IDM of Four Tet and isan (whose Robin Saville released this album in the . on his Arable label) with gentle bossa nova and folk-inflected songwriting, infused with their endearingly lighthearted personal sensibility

Any sense of normality is displaced by the Psapp trademark twisted shifting rhythms shuffling along with a mischievous air, om-like vocal padding and country-fair inspired strings in tow. The track has a certain Sufjan Stevens melodic charm. The disjointed samba leanings of "About Fun" with its sampled kitten-sounding squeals and improvisatory piano riff is odd but strangely pleasing. Steeped in a gentle undulating pensiveness, Tiger My Friend has a bleary-eyed dazed quality but is thankfully uncontrived. The unfussy quirky instrumentation and simple cylindrical melodic fragments create an intensity bubbling just below the surface. Every tiny fragment is carefully placed creating uniquely woven canvases. A highly skillful album but not one for the masses. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Licence.

However, despite the fact that they are not exactly exploring new musical terrirories, Psapp are far more than just another ''glitch pop' outfit and definitely have something of their own to offer. The irresistible child-like melodies and cheeky use of found sounds (including a kitten squeaking, on one track) create something truly special.
