Description

The PS Alexander Hamilton sailed round-trip from New York City to Poughkeepsie, stopping at Bear Mountain and West Point each way. Here we sail from West Point to above the Poughkeepsie Bridge, then back to West Point. It was filmed by my dad, Lawrence W. Haas, and the music is by my daughter, Anna Haas.

Hudson River Greenway spans 1. mi. from Dyckman St. and NY 9A/Henry Hudson Pkwy. in Inwood Hill Park to Battery Pl. and West St. at Battery Park. Along most of the route, you will notice that the trail has separated facilities for pedestrians and bicyclists. This division ensures that the thousands of HRG bicycle commuters can maintain safe speeds without negatively affecting those walking along the trail. The HRG passes through several parks along its route; each of these parks has a multitude of picnic areas with grills and benches, which are in frequent use during the summer months. Follow the path another 2 miles south of the GW Bridge, where you will pass through Riverbank State Park and then enter Riverside Park.

We loved our stay at the Alexander Hamilton House. Tom is a wonderful cook and always seemed to pop up the moment we had a question or needed something. He even greated us at the door and gave us homemade muffins upon our arrival! Date of stay: October 2010. Alexander Hamilton House - a bed and breakfast perfectly situated in the Hudson Valley, an area with beauty and charm. I chose to go there on a whim and was totally delighted with Tom, a co-owner and operator. His hospitality, tips on travel, friendliness, attention to detail, cooking abilities, etc. made me feel right at home.

Hudson River School artists believed that nature in the form of the American landscape was an "ineffable manifestation of God. Alexander Hamilton was born on the island of Nevis in the British West Indies, on January 11, 1755 or 1757 (the exact date is unknown). Hamilton's parents were Rachel Fawcett Lavien, who was of British and French Huguenot descent, and James Hamilton, a Scottish trader. At the time of Alexander's birth, Rachel was married to John Lavien, a much older merchant whom she had been pressured to wed by her parents when she was a teenager. They had a son, Peter together  . Hamilton stepped down from his position as secretary of the treasury in 1795, leaving behind a far more secure . economy to back a strengthened federal government.
