Sonic Highways is the eighth studio album by the American rock band Foo Fighters. It was produced by Butch Vig and was released on November 10, 2014, on RCA Records. In writing the album's eight songs, singer and guitarist Dave Grohl traveled to eight cities across the United States to conduct interviews with musicians, recording engineers, record producers, and other individuals discussing each city's musical history, which he used as inspiration for the songs' lyrics.

Sonic Highways is a 2014 American documentary miniseries directed by Dave Grohl and written by Mark Monroe. The documentary was made concurrently with Foo Fighters' eighth album, Sonic Highways, and was broadcast on HBO. Grohl described the project as "a love letter to the history of American music". Each of the eight episodes is presented as an exploration of the musical history of a different American city through a series of interviews by Grohl.

Foo Fighters continue to prove themselves as one of rock's most ambitious bands and with 'Sonic Highways' they've undergone a massive undertaking to provide a love letter to the great music scenes of America. However, much like the scenes represented, there's a great variety in what you get, and 'Sonic Highways' may not flow as smoothly as a traditional album. That being said, you have eight songs that are distinctively Foo Fighters and representative of the locations in which they were recorded.

Sonic Highways is a true musical journey across the . where the Foo Fighters produced each track in a different city that they found influential in their careers. It also has an accompanying documentary series that has an episode to correspond with each city and song. Started in Seattle, Washington in 1994 after the death of Kurt Cobain, Foo Fighters was originally ex-Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl’s solo project after the end of Nirvana. Something From Nothing begins the album with some signature Foo sonic building, starting with a quiet and humble beginning and growing with the evolution of the song. Grohl’s vocals are peaceful and echoic as they meld into the symphony of strings. The song breaks into a jazzy blend with peaks and hard rhythms that accompany Grohl’s ever-intense vocal progression.
