Nepenthe is the second studio album from American singer-songwriter Julianna Barwick. It was released in August 2013, under Dead Oceans Records.

Thankfully, Nepenthe sounds like a step forward for Barwick, a noticeable expansion in scope that still honors the sensibility that made her early records so unique. Somers’ lush production gives her music a larger and crisper depth of field, making it that much easier to get lost in its many overlapping folds. Album opener Offing hovers like thick fog over a remote pond, while Amiina’s strings drone and growl ominously throughout Pyrrhic - these songs are still ethereal, but they’re stormier clouds than Barwick’s conjured before. On a few tracks, Róbert Sturla Reynisson from múm plays a guitar that, true to his post-rock pedigree, sounds more like a tiny spaceship or the noises made by a comfortingly unthreatening alien.

Like a Version is a weekly segment on the Australian radio station Triple J. It involves Australian and international artists playing 2 songs live in the Triple J studio, one of their own songs and then a cover version, hence the name of the segment. The title is wordplay on "Like a Virgin". It was created by Mel Bampton as part of the Mel in the Morning program. The segment was later moved to Robbie Buck's Drive program, and then to the Breakfast Show

Heritage - Nepenthe - I love all of the textures and dynamics of this album, and the progression of this song from start to finish is a prime example of these. The Devil's Orchard' would have been my de facto response for this album before I really delved into it with a good pair of headphones and my undivided attention. Orchid - Under the Weeping Moon: Not much of a fan of the studio version, but the Roundhouse Tapes version blew me away the first time I heard it. Morningrise - To Bid You Farewell: I love the transition from acoustic to heavy near the end. My Arms, Your Hearse - Demon of the Fall: It's extremely brutal and Mikael's lyrics are metal as fuck.

Keyboardist Eddie Konczal and vocalist Keith Watlington complete the original lineup in 1992. The album is officially released in March 1997 with a good reception of the fans, the sound is clearly inspired in the Neo Prog movement of the early 80's and classic Symphonic with many references to Marillion, Genesis, Yes and even Rush with a powerful guitar work and lush keyboards, which could appeal to fans of Neo Prog, Symphonic and even Heavy. Prog or 80's Euro Pop listeners
