There may have been a workable theatrical production hidden somewhere in Preservation, but it was utterly lost on record (reportedly it was better live), due in no small part to how it was unevenly divided, a practice that revealed Davies' lack of realized songs for the project, plus his unfinished story. It was later revealed that Ray was at the end of his rope during the making of Preservation - he would have a breakdown during its supporting tour - so, perhaps it shouldn't be a surprise that the album doesn't work on its own.

The two records that make up Preservation Act2, along with the earlier released, single LP companion, Act 1, are however, a different story. Besides, the three records tell a story of far more interest and import thatn any previous rock opera.

Kinks is the self-titled debut album by English rock band The Kinks, released in 1964. It was released with three tracks omitted as You Really Got Me in the United States. The album was re-released in 1998 in the UK on Castle Records with twelve bonus tracks. This reissue was itself reissued in 2004 on the Sanctuary label.
