Mark Snow´s music became a character of it´s own on "The X-Files", the success of the show lead to a Score-Album in 1996 called "The Truth and the Light", which included music from the first three seasons, but also had dialogue in it. The X-Files-Theme was released as a Single-CD and became a huge chart success mainly in Europe, climbing to on the French charts. In 2007 he was nominated for a "César" for "Private Fears in Public Places (Coeurs)".

On its release, Private Fears in Public Places received an overwhelmingly positive response in the French press, whereas the enthusiasm of the public was more measured although respectably reflected at the box-office.
