Down-tempo, funky, groove melting jazz funk without any pretentiousness of fusion(the complete opposite of Mahavishnu). Byrd lets the bands stretch out in three spacey rhythmic compositions. Lots of great Rhodes, wah guitar and of course Byrd's cool and ultra hip trumpet playing. In addition he invited Joe Sample & Stix Hopper from the Crusaders to join the ensemble(does it get any better circa 1972?). This is the kind of jazz anyone with a funk bone in their body can move too. Before the disco laden stuff he released later on and on the cusp of jazzy funkdom. Recommended!!

I am trying to locate a copy of a poem written in the liner notes of Ethiopian Knights by Donald Byrd. The poem was written by Bill Quinn. Can anyone help? Thank you.

Are the pictures of the BST 84380 first pressing correct? My copy has in the lower left corner on the sleeve a reference "MCMLXXII United Artists Records, Inc. BST-84380" and the reference as well as the Blue Note logo are kind of light blue. In addition to that is the white and blue label instead of the blue with black "b" on the media that is shown on this page. Maybe someone can help me and clear this up as I am not sure which version I have in my collection.Thanks.
