Nailing Colours to the Wheel Album Cover Art. Breathless.
The Wheel is the eighth studio album by singer-songwriter Rosanne Cash. Most of the songs on the album reflected Cash's feelings on embarking on a new relationship (with music producer John Leventhal, whom she would eventually marry) after the dissolution of her marriage to Rodney Crowell. Though neither of its two singles, "The Wheel" and "You Won't Let Me In", charted on the Billboard Hot Country Singles & Tracks chart, the album received considerable critical acclaim.
Colours that lie opposite each other on the colour wheel are called complementary colours. When you look at brightly lit yellow for a while and you close your eyes you wil see a purple image in your minds eye. The Impresionists used this to imbue their paintings with light. They used different hues of complimentary colours to indicate shadow and in so doing eleminated the dark murkiness of a colour mixed with black or brown or blue. When we put them on a colour wheel, we try to isolate the tone, but in reality they are more like a flowing river and have thousands if not millions of nuances from each tone to the next. Hence the considerable number at the paint stores. It is estimated we can see 10 million colours with the human eye.
The first use of the precise expression 'nail your colours to the mast' that I have found is from the English newspaper The Hereford Journal, August 1807. This reported a naval engagement between British and American ships in which the US captain surrendered without a fight, much to the disgust of his military superiors: "You ought to have nailed your colours to the mast, and have fought whilst a timber remained on your ship
Mixing these colours together in different proportions makes all the colours of the light spectrum. It is estimated that the human eye can distinguish between a whopping 10 million colours in the visible colour spectrum. Step 3 – The Colour Wheel and Hair Colour Theory. So, how does that relate to the colour wheel and the theory behind hair colour? Well, the colour wheel is a simple tool that gives you an organised way to digest colour theory and put it into practice when formulating colour for your clients. And it isn’t just fixing others’ mistakes that your colour wheel will help with. Colour harmony is formulating colours that work harmoniously to the eye. In other words, colours that work well together and will enhance your haircut as well as your client’s eye colour or skin tone. The theory of complimentary colours can also be used to create colour harmony. Imagine that your client wants to enhance their blue eyes.
Do you wear the same colour combinations over and over? Are you a little bored with these but not sure how to combine colours. How to combine colours using the colour wheel so that you can create fabulous outfits in exciting colour combinations that express your style.
The colours are the main body (big square), the belly/accent (medium square) and the horn/detail accent (small square, only on the new wheel) because I felt it would be needed for some tones (Grapefruit and then Tarnish gave me the idea) ! Plus it is interesting (I wanted to do it with all the colours of a body bu. .
