The Concerto for Group and Orchestra is a concerto composed by Jon Lord, with lyrics written by Ian Gillan
Orchestral percussion are percussion instruments used in orchestras and concert bands mainly in classical music and related styles. The term can also refer to the department or study of performance on said instruments at a music school or conservatory. Generally within such a department, students are required to study all aspects of orchestral playing; with marimba, snare drum, and timpani being the three most basic areas of study.

Although a concerto is usually a piece of music for one or more solo instruments accompanied by a full orchestra, several composers have written works with the apparently contradictory title Concerto for Orchestra. This title is usually chosen to emphasise soloistic and virtuosic treatment of various individual instruments or sections in the orchestra, with emphasis on instruments changing during the piece.
2–The Concerto for Orchestra is among the composer’s last works. It was commissioned by the Koussevitzky Music Foundation in 1943 in memory of the distinguished conductor Sergey Koussevitzky’s wife Natalie and received its first performance by the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Koussevitzky in December 1944. The work displays the virtuoso talents of different sections of the orchestra, using devices of textural and dynamic contrast, thus justifying its title

Deep Purple video chronology. Concerto for Group and Orchestra (album) (1970). Live in Concert 72/73 (2005). After an extended orchestral introduction, the group and orchestra work as separate blocks, trying to get dominance over the main theme and working as antagonists to each other. This movement is based around two tunes that are played in various different arrangements by the orchestra and the group, individually and together. After a combined pop, blues version of the second tune, there is an organ cadenza followed by a quiet ending by the orchestra. Third movement (Vivace – Presto). Apart from Ian Paice's drum solo, the music combines the orchestra and group together in a "free for all". The movement alternates between 6/8 and 2/4 time signatures.
