Here Comes the Devil is a bizarre clash of tones and genres. it's a whole lot of different things. I love throwbacks when they stand on their own two feet without piggy backing off of the achievements of better films. Here Comes The Devil is an original take on the "creepy kid" narrative, and it never makes brazen references to other films of its genre nevertheless. it has the vibe of a '70's film. A weird narrative, a cold conclusion, and a lot of experimental visuals.

Then there are severe, atonal fugues that make the most of the orchestra’s spectral properties, detuning the strings until they throw off the dull pewter gleam of a migraine. The soundtrack wisely opts to leave those out; heard here, they would lose their counterintuitive power and break the eerie, bruised mood that Greenwood so skillfully evokes. The restraint of his score is a testament to his interpretive abilities, but even as a standalone album, You Were Never Really Here is an engrossing listen.
