Boulez’s New York Philharmonic recordings of Bartók’s Concerto for Orchestra and Ravel s Daphnis et Chloé brought him further Grammys in 1973 and 1975, respectively. Other acclaimed opera recordings followed, including Bartók’s Bluebeard’s Castle and Schoenberg’s Moses und Aron, both with the BBC Symphony Orchestra. There were a number of surprises and rarities, too: Handel’s Water Music, Berlioz’s Lélio narrated by Jean-Louis Barrault, Wagner s rarely heard choral work Love-Feast of the Apostles, and a controversial, stimulating Beethoven Fifth Symphony. For more than 40 seasons Joseph Flummerfelt has been preparing choral performances for the New York Philharmonic. Named Conductor of the Year in 2004 by Musical America, he is the founder and musical director of the New York Choral Artists, and was an artistic director of the Spoleto Festival USA for 37 years and conductor of the Westminster Choir for 33 years. He has collaborated with such conductors as Claudio Abbado, Daniel Barenboim, Leonard Bernstein, Pierre Boulez, Chailly, Colin Davis, Alan Gilbert, Carlo Maria Giulini, Lorin Maazel, Kurt Masur, Zubin Mehta, Riccardo Muti, Seiji Ozawa,.

The Siegfried Idyll, WWV 103, by Richard Wagner is a symphonic poem for chamber orchestra. Wagner composed the Siegfried Idyll as a birthday present to his second wife, Cosima, after the birth of their son Siegfried in 1869. It was first performed on Christmas morning, 25 December 1870, by a small ensemble of the Tonhalle Orchester Zürich on the stairs of their villa at Tribschen (today part of Lucerne), Switzerland. Cosima awoke to its opening melody.
