I bought one copy here in December last year. At first I thought my copy was U.K. 1st press. But I recently have found mine is not UK pressing. My copy was released in Benelux. It seems to look like the same from U.K. 1st press in many ways (embossed letters, Fact 200, etc.), but the label of my record shows it was made in EEC although the outer sleeve indicates it was manufactured in UK. My copy was wrongly listed as a U.K. Version when I bought it.

One of the most influential albums of my life. I'd never heard of New Order until I borrowed a friend's double cassette and checked it out. I immediately bought the double LP and then later the CD release. Initially I never connected with the second CD, much preferring the first which is much lighter and feels as if they have emerged from dark times. I later had the joy of 'discovering' CD2 after some years and grew an appreciation of the different direction CD 2 takes. Masterful.

There is a limited release (1,000 copies) of this double LP. Same tracks but different cover. The front has the Peony Blue Rose and the back Conch Red Shell. Each employee of Factory Records received a copy of Substance 1987 for their birthday during the fiscal year of its release. Finally, on the back there's a caption that states, "Not for resale unless desperate."
