Independent Worm Saloon Butthole Surfers.

Who Was in My Room Last Night?" is the opening track from American alternative rock band Butthole Surfers' sixth album, Independent Worm Saloon. A remixed version, known as the "Tate or Tot Mix," was released on the CD magazine Volume Eight. The music video was directed by William Stobaugh, and animated by Tom Holleran and Wes Archer. The video depicts a man who drives to a bar where the Butthole Surfers are performing the song

Independent Worm Saloon is probably the most listenable of all the Butthole Surfers albums out there. While not quite as popular as 1996's Electriclarryland (by overall public opinion), it is, in my opinion, a much better-sounding and overall a smoother sounding record than Larryland. That's not to say that this is a normal album by any means; it's just a conventional sound for a group.

Plain don't have the best track record - so I was quite wary about buying this, but this is actually a pretty decent press. Fairly quiet, but for such a long album pressed on the one record I would expect that. If you can't afford an original copy but want to have IWS on vinyl, this is worth picking up.

Agreed. Had to have it. Read reviews of Plain after the fact and was pleasantly surprised when I spun it. And spun it again. Worth it.

never heard a PLAIN re-issues that pleased my ears. PLAIN stOOpid :-)

If there is no swearing on this version. Does that mean that Dust Devil & Clean It Up have also been edited?
Browelali Browelali
Terrible sound quality as on all Plain Recordings i have come over. Stay away from this awful label.

Good question. Obviously a mistake word word word word word

Ok but why did you give it five stars then?

My copy is excellent sounding.. i must have been lucky.

My copy of this standard jewelcase issue came in a longbox.

This is a great great great great album. Guitar players & listeners MUST have it. The original sounds very good. Get the cd at least...avoid Plain's garbage.

Did this happen to anyone else, that may have ordered this in a record store.1st copy - you know how when you drop rocks in water and the many water rings happens. Imagine a photo of that. And now press those rings onto the record. Sent back for replacement.2nd copy - scratched up pretty bad. Store couldn't believe how bad it was. Sent back.3rd copy - also in horrible shape. Sent back.4th copy and the entire rest of the carton that X amount come in. ALL DESTROYED!Not sure if this has happened elsewhere, but the ones we got up here in Ontario are worthless. Unless you want to make a bowl out of them.So now, I have to wait until they get in a good copy. E.L.L. was just as bad and only took 4 copies to get a good one.I won't ever be buying anything from Plain Recordings ever again.

First press of this lp didn't sound so good to begin with. 62 mins of music pressed on one vinyl is bit too much. I have Plain version of this too and it doesn't sound much worse than original. It should have been pressed at least on 3 sides like Electriclarryland. My other albums from Plain like L7: Bricks Are Heavy sound actually good. Don't remember what other I have but maybe 2-3 more. I heard their Mr. Bungle press and that was a total waste of vinyl. What a shame because they have taste but they don't have knowledge or they just don't care. All kinds of shitty companies try to get their share of vinyl being popular again. I'm sorry to hear your copies were total trash. Hope you get nice clean original somewhere or Capitol would reissue both of their Butthole Surfers albums. One of the greatest band ever deserves better treatment. Cheers from Finland, Petri

finally got a copy that don't look like a horse's butthole.but after that issue i just heard on ELL by BHS, then i don't even want to play this record.wish i kept my original now.

another abysmal release from plain recordings. skips, no low end, faded center lable, pressed from CD. . . avoid this copy at all costs.

Do not attempt to buy this on vinyl. Plain Recordings do a lousy job on reissues. They do not reissue from the original tapes, but through CD. I don’t know why bands deal with them. I’m reluctant to purchase this, but if you do buy it from Amazon and if the sound quality is horrible, simply return it and get your dough back. Good luck.

Thanks for your reply. I'm ordering it through Amazon and at worst, i can always send it back. I hope it's good. I hope it sounds just like I would think the record should sound. This is one their best pieces of work and having it & listening to it on wax has been something I've been missing in my record collection and from my life since its release.

I think the pressing is very good, or at least my copy (I had mixed luck with Plain's pressings) even if the B side is over 30 minutes it is remarkably silent. Not the loudest record I own but it is expected given the length of the record. Compared with the mp3s I have, it sounds more dynamic and clear... I dont have the CD, so maybe somebody else can chip in and compare
Simple Simple
WOW! This is a first and you can really say that it sounds good huh? Okay, thanks for the tip.

Actually, I do have the LP. I am not a defender of them, I have bought some records that are either very noisy or clearly from CD source... but this one seems to be the exception. Looking at the markings it seems they pressed at RTI and from my needle drops I can't imagine how it is possible to have audio up to 50kHz and 2dB more dynamic ranage if they used the CD...
Kazigrel Kazigrel
dmarti4 False in this case I think, the Dynamic range of the vinyl is 2dB higher than the CD, so they could have not used that as the source I'm assuming you haven't bought an LP from Plain Recordings because they're notorious for doing that on every reissue they press. Do you have the LP?
Rose Of Winds Rose Of Winds
False in this case I think, the Dynamic range of the vinyl is 2dB higher than the CD, so they could have not used that as the source
Heraly Heraly
How about this press?Does it sound good?
Wohald Wohald
what matters is if it is possible to enjoy listening to , mine is not. Loud surface noise all the way through and terrible low end.
Roram Roram
Paul Leary said it was recorded on 2" tape, 24 track, digital. He even made a mention of what machine it was, and mixing board on the bands message board.
Blackbeard Blackbeard
I actually hit up Plain Recordings and asked them what their source was for this and L7's Bricks Are Heavy. They advised they were using high resolution digital files for those records. I have both of these albums and I do think that's what they used for them. It isn't the best thing I've ever heard, but it's certainly more than acceptable. Not sure if this record was recorded digitally or analog, but these are worthwhile presses for the money.
MrDog MrDog
I doubt they sourced it from the CD in this case. I compared the Dynamic range data from loudness wars http://dr.loudness-war.info/album/view/55107 with a needle drop I did and there is almost 2dB more of dinamic range in the vinyl... I would expect it to be lower is they used the CD as source. Also the frequency range of the record extends upwards 50k, You should see a clear cut at 20k if they used the CD
Vrion Vrion
I've been told to stay away from everything they press, so I assume its the same with this one. They source all their records from CDs, so there's no point in buying this.
