Description

Kooky, funny, but surprisingly insightful songs and stories about small-town weirdos - a companion album to Trouble. A quirky anomoly, this album is easily one of the seven wonders of the pop music world.

It took the emergence of Hazlewood and Eddy to turn what might have seemed a passing fad for rock’n’roll instrumentals into an identifiable genre. We’ve already started work on our next Lee Hazlewood project, so watch this space (but not for another five years, all being well). Track Listing:, 01 Shazam!

Hazlewood recorded a pair of Top 40 hits, "I'm a Fool" and "Our Time's Coming," Reprise showed their gratitude by allowing him to record his second LP, The . s ("The t People"), during 1965. More and more, his records weren't even being released in America in the seventies, though he continued to do solid work - 1973's Poet, Fool or Bum was one of the best of his career. In 1999 he headlined at London's Royal Festival Hall, returning in 2002, when he was backed by a band of leading British experimental rock musicians. After another record for Reprise (Friday's Child), his publisher found him a contract with MGM, and he released two LPs in two years: 1966's The Very Special World of Lee Hazlewood and 1967's Lee Hazlewood-ism: Its Cause and Cure. A planned third record, 1968's Something Special, wasn't actually heard until decades later.

Barton Lee Hazlewood (July 9, 1929 – August 4, 2007) was an American country and pop singer, songwriter, and record producer, most widely known for his work with guitarist Duane Eddy during the late 1950s and singer Nancy Sinatra in the 1960s. Hazlewood had a distinctive baritone voice that added a resonance to his music

In three years on the label, Hazlewood delivered three albums and sundry odds and ends, beginning with 1966 album The Very Special World Of Lee Hazlewood. The LP found Hazlewood gunning–in as much as he ever did–for commercial success, blending country, pop, novelty, mariachi, and lounge music into something unusually of-the-moment.

To most of his colleagues, Hazlewood continued to appear wry and unflappable even as LHI's chronic hit-drought threatened its survival. Hazlewood sank from view in the 80s and 90s, thwarting attempts by the Sub Pop label to reissue his work and release a heavyweight tribute album featuring fans such as Nirvana and Beck. Later, other labels approached him and he eventually relented, although he admitted that the endorsement of a Cocker or Cave meant less to him than the royalty cheques he got from Billy Ray Cyrus's cornball version of These Boots Are Made for Walkin'.

Good God no!Do yourself a favour and avoid 1972 reissues like the plague. These reissues are poor quality bandwagon jumping cash-grabs. Terrible pressings from Rainbo, mastered from digital sources (likely this Rhino release, Lee Hazlewood - Strung Out On Something New: The Reprise Recordings ), and shoddy facsimile cover art. Save your cash for an original, they're really not that hard to find if you're a diligent digger, and it shouldn't cost more than $80 to $100 US. Trust me, an original pressing is worth it when the other option is at the hands of 1972 (NEVER AGAIN!).
