Best of Both Worlds is a two-disc compilation album by British neo-progressive rock band Marillion released in 1997 by EMI Records, who the band had been signed to from their debut in 1982 until being dropped in 1995. The title refers to Marillion's two distinct "eras" with lead singers Fish (1980-1988) and Steve Hogarth (since 1989). By the time this compilation was released, both line-ups had recorded four studio albums each.

Ruined by an ex-brother in law, who incessantly preached the superiority of Marillion and constantly doodled their guitar parts on his unplugged Fender. Afraid of Sunlight was the first Marillion studio album to fail to reach the Top 10 in the UK Albums Chart, peaking at number 16 and falling out of the Top 75 after two weeks. Despite this, Afraid of Sunlight became one of the band's most critically acclaimed albums and was included in Q magazine's "Recordings of the Year" for 1995.

This 18-track best-of collection by Marillion is as good as a one-disc set can be, divided neatly into two halves according to vocalist, with the Fish era followed neatly and wonderfully by the current band fronted by Steven Hogarth.

This Marillion discography is ranked from best to worst, so the top Marillion albums can be found at the top of the list. To make it easy for you, we haven't included Marillion singles, EPs, or compilations, so everything you see here should only be studio albums.

Marillion’s second album, Fugazi, saw them leaving behind the notion that they were merely a pastiche of Gabriel-era Genesis, with a dense, layered sound that was far more their own. Driven by a propulsive riff, Incubus is a highlight, a song about revenge porn written three decades before it became a regular news item. When performed live, either by Fish or by the current incarnation of Marillion, they’re almost always played together. Watch Marillion perform Warm Wet Circles and That Time of the Night. 4. Seasons End. Just when Marillion seemed poised to conquer the world, the unthinkable happened. Burned out by constant touring without downtime and with divisions over musical direction beginning to surface, Fish left the band.

Back to top. The best of both worlds. 2CD compilation album.
