The Rocket Man star was aged 21 and still known as Reginald Dwight when he penned Skyline Pigeon with songwriting partner Bernie Taupin in 1968. The ballad was on his first album, Empty Sky, released the next year. Its lyrics are being auctioned in the US with letters from Elton and Taupin discussing them. In one letter, Sir Elton said he felt it 'stood the test of time' and the issues raised in it of freedom and liberty 'will always be significant'. Taupin, in his correspondence, said it was the first song that 'truly defined Elton and my direction as songwriters'. Up to this point we had been cajoled into writing bland corporate songs for middle-of-the-road performers.

However,for even the casual Doors fan,it fun to break out the record player and put this o. t sounds incredible on almost anything and is very sturdy compared to most vinyl due to it's extra thickness. I will say if you can still find it cheap,I would get it fast. They are all out of print and going fast.
