Drone Logic Daniel Avery.

Alexis Petridis recommends house DJ Daniel Avery's debut album, Drone Logic.

On his new Drone Logic, Daniel Avery schews the hyper-rhythmic minimalism and throwback New Jersey garage sound that currently power UK club music in favor of soupy, riff-driven compositions that borrow from UK fetishes past: burbling acid house, elegant Detroit techno, big beat. The tracks on his debut LP Drone Logic feel tailored to this kind of high-end environment: crisp, thrumming tunes that proudly prance over a wide spectrum of frequencies. The album feels decadent, like one-percenter techno: rave music made for the best systems, to be played by the most talented DJs, drawing only from the purest eras of British dance exceptionalism. Avery keeps his rhythmic patterns simple, drawing most of his drum sounds from pre-approved house and techno palates, and he does this to better showcase his big, groovy synth riffs

Daniel Avery is a young DJ and producer living in London. He makes dance music – very good dance music. So far, so straightforward – but then it’s worth stating the obvious when it comes to Avery. In a scene in which the rules for electronic music are constantly being redefined, what sets him apart is just how loyally he sticks to the templates laid down by his predecessors. This is a debut album of pure four-to-the-floor virtuosity: one that pays its respects to everyone from Cajmere to The Chemical Brothers

Daniel Avery - Drone Logic In the world of electronic music, Daniel Avery is what we might call a rockist. He grew up on guitar music in his hometown of Bournemouth, and came to dance music relatively late. He releases on Erol Alkan's indie-friendly Phantasy Sound, his tracks make melody their chief concern, and they aren't the least bit fashionable. All of this makes him quite refreshing. His debut LP, Drone Logic, puts a neat little bow on his sudden rise to fame over the past year, and adds shades of depth to his already well-established sound.

Drone Logic ‎(2xLP, Album + CD, Mixed, Promo + CD, Mixed, Promo). Phantasy Sound, Because Music. Diese Version verkaufen. Drone Logic ‎(CD, Album + CD, Mixed + CD, Mixed, Promo). bezogen auf Drone Logic, 2xLP, Album, PHLP002. Enjoying this album alot, although it does feel quite derivative in places. Free Floating sounds like Positive Education by Slam to my ears and parts of Drone Logic remind me of Rez by Underworld. Still a great record though. 5 out of 5. I find this album horrible. No melody, no "music" but weak ideas and stacked commonplaces of sounds. The sonic timbres are layering on each-other like on a scrapyard. On a scrapyard of noise polluting musics... This album is wasting of the time. There are houndreds better...

Such a great record here, one of my top records when I bought it. Lots of ACID sounds and techno mayhem, if you hear any of his DJ sets, he is relentless! TOP GEAR!

One of the worst album of the thousands I've ever heard. No real ideas but randomity, there's NO a single original movements, absolutely lacks of any tiny original sounds, sonic timbres. Nothing. All the elements are already heard many times already before during the last 20-30+ years. No rhytmic ideas, no melody. Very badly made even in it's rudimentary, mindless genre. Please try listen the early Depeche Mode, Kraftwerk and the classic ones and make music after then! Daniel Avery is highly UNrecommended!

I do absolutely agree: All the elements were already used by someone else previously. No "songs", no music in this album but the randomity of weak ideas. I find it absolutely uninteresting and a noise-pollution. Sorry.

The only explanation for this review is that it's a joke. At the very least, judging by the grammar, it was written by a 6yr old.

You obviously are a complete retard...can't be arsed pulling you to pieces...listen !

Don't believe the hype...

Music is a vast forest and the masterpieces are the lakes, the towering trees or strange trees, the lovely eloquent flowers, the hidden caves, but a forest is also made up of ordinary trees, patches of grass, puddles, clinging vines, mushrooms and little wildflowers. In the Peak District lies a strand of grass near Rushup Edge where Drone Logic is written in phyllotaxis unseen by the eye.

I like this, but can't help but feel the kick drums are a bit insipid. I need more OOOMPH!

And to be fair, those are two pretty good tracks to be bringing to mind...

Truly amazing release that melds techno, acid and Nu-Gaze perfectly together for something fresh and familiar.
Sorryyy Sorryyy
curious why this album hasn't exploded in numbers on discogs yet. best techno album of 2013.

This release is absolutely stunning! Taking bits of old classic styles and making them fresh and new. So happy to have this one in my arsenal, just about every track has something rich and original to offer. Will be looking forward to more from this guy in the future for sure! 6/5
