Highly Evolved is the 2002 debut album by Australian rock band The Vines. It was released with critical acclaim. At the time, people called them "The next Nirvana". It was featured in the books 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die and 100 Best Australian Albums. The album is mostly known for there very populare song "Get Free". The album's recording process started on July 2001 and ended on Feburary of 2002.

Released July 14, 2002. Highly Evolved Tracklist. 1. Highly Evolved Lyrics. 2. Autumn Shade Lyrics.

Highly Evolved was single of the week in March 2002 in NME and rightly so, however it could of been longer. 4/5. Autumn Shade Mellow out after Highly Evolved, the accoustic guitar takes you to, umm, the backyard" This is a really good chilling song and it highlights Nicholls songwriting skills. The piano and the background organs give this track a good effect, and Nicholls voice is haunting. Matthew's bass line throught the song fits perfectly and the slow guitar solo works brilliantly. 8. Factory Happyiness music galore, Factory was the Vines first single before the Highly Evolved album. The song talks about the lives of the people who nut it out in the hard workforce out there, the chorus is very loud compared to the verse, but the guitar works nicely.

The Vines ‎– Highly Evolved. Country: Australia & New Zealand. Mastered at Sterling Sound, NYC. Designed in one day at karlssonwilker in. NYC. The album title and catalogue number is printed on a sticker and affixed to the front of the jewel case (see image).

The single "Highly Evolved" earned them more critical acclaim as NME made it a single of the week in March 2002. The single charted in the UK at number 32 on the singles chart and on Australia's ARIAnet top 100 singles chart. The band appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone in October 2002 (the first Australian band to do so since Men at Work in 1983) with the words "Rock is Back: Meet the Vines" boldly emblazoned underneath  . Craig Nicholls realised while touring for the promotion of their debut album, Highly Evolved (July 2002), that they needed an additional guitarist. So Nicholls asked his longtime friend and schoolmate Ryan Griffiths to join. Get Free" from the Vines' debut album Highly Evolved. Problems playing this file? See media help.

Highly Evolved is the debut album by Australian garage rockers The Vines, released in July 2002 (see 2002 in music). Produced by Rob Schnapf, Highly Evolved was an immensely popular debut, part of a trend towards post-punk-inspired garage bands known as much for the relentless hype from the UK music press as for their music; The Vines were frequently compared to Nirvana. The debut single, "Highly Evolved", was chosen as Single of the Week by influential British music magazine New Musical Express. They also voted it the 2nd best album of the year in 2002.
